Our Story
Sonara began with a simple but urgent belief: methadone treatment should be easier to access without compromising the structure that keeps patients safe.
The idea took shape while our CEO, Dr. Michael Giles, was completing his psychiatry training. During that time, he worked closely with an opioid treatment program (OTP) and saw firsthand both the dedication of care teams and the barriers patients face in staying engaged with treatment. Daily clinic visits, transportation challenges, work conflicts, parental obligations, and stigma often stood between patients and the stability they were working toward.
Those experiences pointed to a broader need: providers needed better visibility into what was happening between clinic visits, including at-home adherence, cravings, withdrawal, and overall mental well-being, so they could expand access more confidently and deliver treatment more effectively.
Sonara was built to meet that need.
Sonara partners with OTPs to expand access while maintaining clinical oversight and compliance. Through our Hybrid Care Model, patients can take medication at home while remaining securely connected to their care teams.
We believe fewer lives would be lost to opioid dependency if treatment barriers were eliminated. By blending in-person care with accountable remote tools, we’re helping treatment work in the real world.
More flexibility. More trust. Improved outcomes.
